Trauma Counselling
There are numerous types of traumas that people experience.
Some of these are fetal trauma, birth trauma, death/loss, illness, injury, sexual/physical abuse, witnessing violence, natural disasters, war, surgery, prolonged immobilization and the list goes on.
The experience of trauma occurs when a psychologically distressing experience/encounter or experiences result in an emotional or mental disorder or has lasting negative effects on a person’s thoughts, feelings, or behavior.
There are three main elements in trauma counselling:
- Sharing your trauma by talking about it
- Releasing your trauma and the pain that it holds
- Reconnecting
Trauma counselling is beneficial in that is allows for a safe space for all of the above to take place, guided by a trained professional that is able to be present and empathetic with your pain.
